The discourse on peatland rewetting needs multifaceted engagement and new imaginaries for living and working well with wet peatlands. In the project “Irrlichter” (will-’o-the-wisp), a group of people is building an unusual path into the reeds, away from worn trails and established positions. Their starting point is the locally deep-rooted Moorbauer (Malchin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), a cultural venue and peatland restaurant. Through collaboratively constructing the path with visitors, the people running Moorbauer, and invited specialists, they create unique spaces for immediate experience and constructive exchange. They will carry their experiences into politics, journalism, research, and other peatland networks and projects. “Irrlichter” is led by journalist Swantje Furtak, curator Franziska Bax, political scientist Augustin Berghöfer, and materials scientist Charlett Wenig.
